Confirm the final cabinet position
Worktop measurements should follow cabinet levelling and alignment. Measuring from cabinets that are still moving creates avoidable errors.
Use the actual appliance information
Nominal appliance size is not the cut-out size. The manufacturer template or current installation dimensions should be checked, including clips, seals, minimum edge distances and clearances below.
Protect the worktop
Cutting method depends on the material. Visible surfaces, edges and corners need protection, and the opening must remain adequately supported.
Know when specialist fabrication is required
Stone, sintered surfaces and some composite products are normally fabricated with specialist equipment. A safe installation plan includes recognising work that should be completed by the appropriate fabricator rather than attempting an unsuitable site cut.
